Screaming in the New Year.

Time: Same night as last entry but later; also, it's New Year's Eve!
Location: At the heart of the circus, specifically the carousel

Another year was about to pass in the circus and a new one about to start. In the streets there was a steady flow of alcohol, music, and boisterous crowds; all in all not much different from any other night. There was ( Read more... )

This was too much even for Creepy, who didn't waste a moment's time to scamper for the shadows. The clown demon simply up and vanished into a tendril of smoke as though he'd been vaporized on the spot by the intense sound waves. The boss, no doubt, would be in hysterics. It had been an interesting selection of recruits this time around, he'd give them that.

The ear-shattering sound hit Gonko's ears just as he was about to enjoy a swig of free booze someone had passed around.

"What the bleeding Christ?!" Gonko screamed dropping the cup. Oh, but he knew that noise better than he'd ever wanted to. Somewhere out on the showgrounds another of the Pilo Family's finest had turned up. "GOSHY!"

Luckily he was prepared for such an occasion and, reaching into his pants pocket, he pulled out some earplugs to stuff into his ears. Then he took off in search of his wailing crew mate.

The Princess has been wandering the streets again. It was a character trait that both her and Helena shared. Why? Because they both knew that when you got lost things get found.

Well, The Princess was getting lost in what the humans called a rum and coke when she heard the ear pierced, blood curdling scream from the somewhere on beind her, although she couldn't be too sure... The sound seemed to emminate from everywhere it was so freakishly loud and annoying.

She dropped the rum and coke, having only taken a short swig of it, and started in the general direction of the sound. She placed her hands over her ears to begin with and watched as a clown who had just momentarily passed her was stuffing ear plugs into his ears and walking quite hurriedly to the sound with a... determined expression set on his features.

She followed him. He seemed to look like he knew where he was going.

And where he was going happened to be the opposite of where everyone else was going. Those who hadn't succumbed to the noise and fallen to the ground were bolting away from it. Unaware that he was being followed, Gonko broke into a sprint, dodging people from the oncoming stampede, surprisingly agile for a man wearing oversized clown shoes. To pinpoint Goshy, however, he would need a higher vantage point.

An opportunity presented itself in the form of a giant super-slide up ahead; it would have to do. Cursing under his breath, the clown boss veered toward it toppling a few people in the process. He raced up the slide's inclined slope and managed not to slip while scaling its wavy surface. The top offered a decent view of the showgrounds and Gonko stood, searching for the source of the pandemonium through narrowed eyes.

The Princess followed at a decent pace, always keeping him in her sights. She wasn't quite sure why she felt the need to follow considering the fact that she was seemingly walking towards one of the most annoying howls she'd ever heard but she was curious all the same.

She also liked the feeling of being one of a few people who were walking against the flailing crowd.

When the clown in front of her scrambled up the slope of the slide she merely stopped underneath him to attempt to see what he was seeing from her own perspective. She couldn't see a damn thing. So she waited.

AUGH! What was that horrible fucking sound!? Harley was surprised, and a little dismayed that there was a voice more shrill and painful than hers around here. She was hunched over a horse on the carousel with her hands clamped over her ears as the shriek penetrated to her eardrums. Can't a girl enjoy a horsie ride in peace, for fuck sake?

After a few agonizing moments, Harley decided to hop off her mount and locate the source of the sound which was standing dumbly not far from her. Another clown? They were freaking everywhere in this place... she'd possibly have to eliminate some of the competition later. For now, she reached into her trusty bag for the heaviest thing in there, a paperweight that said 'I heart Michigan', and tossed it at the fucker's head while yelling, "HEY YA FREAKIN' PALOOKA! SHUT THE HELL UP!"

The trinket didn't miss its mark. It ricocheted off of Goshy's skull and came flying back at Harley, nearly clipping her shoulder as it passed. The pain of being stricken didn't seem to faze him much but it certainly got his attention. He whirled around to look at Harley, features contorted into an expression not meant for a human face with teeth bared and skin pulled back as if held by invisible sutures. No less disturbing was the look in his eyes--the left was wide with overwhelmed surprise but the right was narrowed keenly at her as if to say Do it again. Try me.

Though he'd turned to his attacker, Goshy made no other move and stood with both fists bunched at his sides. His face remained frozen in that look of distress and despite how cool the air was, his brow shone with perspiration. Then he drew in a deep breath and released it in another hair-raising shriek, this time directed at Harley.

"HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!" A few of the carousel's blinking light bulbs shattered under the onslaught of sound.

And along came Doopy to add to the fun, and to save poor widdle Gosh-Gosh.

"Hey, hey, HEY, HEY, HEEEEEEEYYY!"

Look out, Harley, because that's Doopy's brother you just threw a paperweight at. Doopy didn't like it when people messed with his brother- it wasn't funny!

Doopy rounded a corner, arms flailing as he struggled wildly to keep his balance, and, although his feet seemed to get tangled up with each other more often than not, he was surprisingly fast, and heading down a zig-zagging path straight towards Harley.

She wasn't expecting another ear-splitting scream at point blank range after narrowly missing the paperweight. The shock of the sound sent a fresh trail of blood dripping out of her ears as she crouched down with her hands clamped to the sides of her head again to try and block out the sound. It was inhuman! Like a super power or something!

That look in his one eye was unsettling enough. It was like he had a stroke or something and all that evil was just trapped in that one side. The scream was taking over all her senses and she couldn't even run away, even when the other crazy clown came running at her. How many clowns were in this place anyway? All she could do was watch the blur of white face paint coming at her and hope to whoever was listening that the noise would stop in time for her to tumble her way out of danger.

Should have posted sooner. A thousand apologies! 03_pokerface January 15 2010, 16:47:30 UTC
He wasn't sure where he was. A new place, perhaps an extension of wherever he was before this. He was beyond the point of bothering to keep track of the where and when anymore. But something about himself was warping. His mind... his mood. This started as a sketchy looking area but with each step into the carnival he felt more and more at... ease? Pleasure? Whatever the appropriate word was, it was all over.

He was donning his proper clown attire, for reasons unknown and listening to the people around, waiting for some indication of where he was. None came though, only a shrill scream coming from the carousel in the middle.

"Hm?" the newest clown looked to the man at the ride, irritated. Why was he screaming? How odd.

It seemed that this man and Shalice were far enough from the screams that it didn't affect them. Of course, Shalice had planned it that way. Trowa most likely hadn't planned anything, and that was the advantage she had over most people. It's what made her valuable to the Pilo brothers and to anyone else willing to put a roof over her head and food on her plate.

Shalice was standing just outside her hut regarding the man with mild interest.

"Are you lost?" She asked once the screaming had stopped.

Ah, New Year's Eve. The Joker never was one for passing up a good celebration. It was a little funny; before he'd found himself here, it wasn't time for a new year and because of that he'd had little time for preparations. Even so he managed earlier to get his hands on some dynamite and was presently stringing it around the supporting base of the sphere. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be to his fancy standards but it was better than nothing. His first night here would leave an explosive first impression ( ... )

The perpetrator was heading off unhurried in the opposite direction of the flaming wreckage, probably the only individual who hadn't stopped and turned to gawk. He roamed the streets without a shred of concern, doubtful yet still curious to see if anyone would pursue him for the damage he'd just caused. What interested him more, however, was gaining a feel for this new place both in terms of its physical layout and in the ways of the beings who were inhabiting it.

Though the ball had crashed and burned, the fireworks display kicked off right on cue and, eventually, so did the music. Colorful bursts of light filled the sky above the small scale carnage below. The party may have been interrupted but it never stopped.

The fact that he was the only one to walk calmly in the opposite direction was incentive enough to pursue. She didn't care about exacting justice, she was just hungry. Steering clear of the fireworks shooting into the sky, she glided after him silently on updrafts like a shadow. She stayed low enough to keep tabs but high enough to avoid the colourful tents and caravans and the buildings around her.

As she followed him, she admired his purple coat. It stood out. Also made him easier to track. Even from a distance she could taste the energy and emotions around him. They swirled like a sand storm and tasted like chaos. Such a sweet snack.
