The sun slips beneath the horizon and with its descent comes a darkness blacker than night. Plumes of darkness spill silently into the streets from the edges of the city, crawling and stretching like liquid spiderwebs, enshrouding all it touches like a veil pulled over the earth. Nothing and no one is spared from its cold, gentle touch unless you know where to hide. The sounds of a carnival fill every ear and the aroma of food, smoke and perfume dance in the air.
When the veil lifts the sight is almost too bright to bear. No longer the sullen place it was by day, the city is lit up to the sky in bright colored lights. Striped marquees of one or more levels dominate the land, illuminated from within like massive lanterns roped to the ground with large wooden pegs. People of all walks of life step out from their homes and their tents, some as performers and some just to gawk. Though it may look like a magical place and feel like one too, sinister things still lurk. There are monsters here and mayhem all bathed in garish glow. No one seems to care.
