Geats, Geats Everywhere (and not a drop to drink)

So... somehow my most stupid of cats (the hair eating, bathroom sink pissing, random screaming, cat who tries to hump anything made of fabric) set his tail on fire today. Yes, you read right - tail, on fire. And, let me tell you, burning cat tail takes the cake for bad smells. I keep thinking this cat has finally done all the odd things a cat ( Read more... )

Still viscerally not happy about Beowulf being adapted for the screen, much less with CGI, and I think I'm going to hurl that it includes Angelina Jolie.

On the other hand, I'm still squeeing madly about Sweeney Todd and about The Golden Compass. Yay!

Happiest of birthdays, darling. I hope that at least one of my presents has gotten there. Some of them are going to be a bit tardy, I fear. But I think one is on time? I'm going to call you today. *loves*

It's actually not bad, I assure you. It is millennia better than that horrible Gerard Butler movie that came out a couple of years ago. It stays to the thematic concerns of the poem admirably, while still presenting a modern avenue of understanding for the average viewer. And Angie's CGI avatar only has about three scenes, so she's really not there much. It's worth it for the laugh at gratuitous nude Beowulf doing battle against Grendel. Of course, their Grendel is nothing like what I picture as Grendel, but, ah well. And there's actually a scene in which a bard is reciting the tale of Beowulf in Anglo-Saxon! How geeky wonderful is that? And, honestly, CGI was really the only way to do the dragon, anyways.

I almost stole a Sweeney Todd stand-up, but had no idea how I would get it out of the theatre.

Thanks, darling! Alas, no. The USPS must be more glacial than usual. Look forward to hearing from you...

Well, I was laughing my ass off when it happened, if that makes you feel less bad about it. I think I'll have to start thinking of this cat as my "very special" cat, otherwise I'll use up a lifetime's supply of astonishment at his actions. Heh, my mother's cat spends half his life upside down with a foot in his mouth. Perhaps he is the separated twin of yours?

Also, oh Ewan-holic on my flist, what's this I heard about him playing Colin Farrell's brother in a new flick? I don't even care about the movie, but that sounds like an invitation for brother slash to my pervy ears.

*Thud*, indeed! That second movie does sound like a veritable font of potential slash. Gah. Hugh Jackman is just lovely, but I have yet to be able to find any of his film roles (that I have seen, at least) slashable. The idea of Wolverine and slash is an absolute no-go for me.

Well, huh, Woody Allen. Nope, won't be seeing that one, but will treasure the Colin/Ewan potential in my mind. Which is probably the only place Colin looks hot anymore, anyhow. ;>
