Rules for answering the question:
  • If you're not a feminist but still care about gender issues, I don't mind you answering or critiquing it however you want.
  • If you have a hard time answering, feel free to discuss why.
  • I'm pretty curious about what people think, so feel free to write a billion page essay and post it here, email me, or ( Read more... )

C. I think the most disconcerting "side-effect" has been and continues to be the appearance of animosity instead of an honest discourse and examination. I don't think this is specifically linked to feminism, but rather it's an aspect of many social-change endeavors. Some people find it too difficult to examine their own beings, and thus they go to a place of anger or righteousness and out comes the hatred. I see this animosity from non-feminists toward feminists, for sure, but I also feel that I see it from feminists toward non-feminists (the actual man-haters out there), and also between feminists.

erhm...to echo what has been said i find "c" the most disconcerning. but also b and d. i really feel that "E" is valid. abortion isn't nesessarily MORE widespred at this point in time than it has been in the past. it's just a "hot topic" and legal. before the lagality of abortion, we cannot find solid statistics of how common/widespred abortion was...only estimations ( ... )

My thinks "C" is the answer to your question. Women hate, dislike or fear other women because that´s how the patriarchy we live in sets it all up. I think it´s sad that we live in an environment that makes women distrust one another because our fundamental power as women should come from unity. Look at the chapter on Acrimony of Cunts from Inga´s book "Cunt". I´m all for living a world where "C" is no longer an issue and where we can draw power and comfort from womanhood and share our lives more closely with oneanother.

I answered this one on the phone! Definitely B, cause I've found if you talk to women who have feminist beliefs but don't label themselves as such they tend to say they aren't feminists cause that would make them feminazi man hating bitches who think they're better than everyone else. Also if you talk to guys, that's their big problem with feminists, that they just fight for themselves and not for the good of everyone.

Of course C plays into this (the whole animosity thing) but I think B is the root of a lot of that animosity.
