I need to rant.

So, I think I'm finally pinpointing what it is that drives me crazy in Twilight fandom today ( Read more... )

I let the fandom ruin the end of the Harry Potter series for me. I should have just done my thing and ignore the bullshit in the form of shipping wars and who was right about their theories. I felt like the whole thing was one big pissing contest.

You can't help how you feel, and that's totally okay, just don't let the fandom crap ruin it for you. I'd be devastated if you weren't in this fandom, lol. And I don't mean to sound all mom or bossy or holier than thou or anything. *ducks*

And I know this is YOUR space, and I'm not trying to change your opinion or argue. :-(

Oh, darling, I don't think you sound like you're trying to change my opinion or argue! I know exactly what you're saying. And you're right.

This Twilight fandom makes me miss the shipping wars in Harry Potter, sadly. At least when the whole thing went sour for H/Hr shippers, we had our safe havens where we could commiserate. I feel like there's nowhere I can go to complain about the direction Twilight fandom has taken.

But don't worry, I'm going to start rereading the books and get back to basics. And I'm going to use Gaspard icons again, lol.

Well if you ever want someone to talk books with, I'm your girl. I love re-reading and talking about them. <3

Yes! I hate being lumped in with crazy RK shippers or Jackson stalkers or what-have-you. I just liked the books. I see value in the characters and depth that people are all too willing to overlook. And I HATE when I'm reading a fic and someone is obviously trying to write about Rob and Kristen with different names.

I totally agree with you ext_2107723 August 11 2013, 03:05:15 UTC
I couldn't care less about Rob and Kristen. They are not Edward and Bella, and the movies don't hold a candle to the books.

This is why I distanced myself from fandom, bb :( Beyond the epic fail (IMHO, not saying others have to/will agree) that was Breaking Dawn, after that book especially, it was like a flip was switched and everyone lost their damn minds. And at that point, I was done.

I will say though, if Twifandom taught me one thing, it's to ignore the haters and the tin hats, find the corners of the fandom with the sane people, and stay there. So if you really still enjoy Twilight, I would say try to take a break and find a happy place, even if you have to create it yourself, maybe like a members only wank-free zone. Or something.

Idk, just putting it out there. I've been there, so I know how much it sucks <3

As you know, Breaking Dawn didn't bother me so much after the scar tissue I'd formed from HP, but I think the problem was the movies following just a few months after that last book...it became ALL ABOUT the movies because the series was done, and when all these new idiots came in who'd hardly read the books and when everyone started focusing in on the actors instead of the characters...yeah, that just threw it all off.

I'm not gonna ignore the haters. I'm gonna BE the hater. ;)

Maybe we do need a comm that focuses only on the books and the fics. But I think for myself, I'm going to just go back to the books and remind myself what I loved about Twilight. Maybe I can even muster up some excitement for the last film. Gag.

Miss you! ext_1239602 September 13 2014, 02:35:12 UTC
I miss you and your fics so much!!! I've been reading fics for over 4 1/2yrs now, and you were one of my first *loves*, always will be. I miss your stories, your writing, and I miss AU stories in general (they're so rare nowadays). While I admit I crush on Rob and every now and then catch up on gossip, I don't have time for the various fandom issues and drama, and try to focus on reading fics. The fics are my escape, my little piece of heaven. I hope you haven't totally lost your inspiration. If you're writing or posting under a different name, let us (or me....hehe) know, so I can start reading your work once again! Are you even on Facebook?

I hope you're doing well -- don't let all BS in life drag you down -- trust me, it's too exhausting :-)

Fan for life,
Dawn
(AKA Breaking Aurora)
