All the New Moon watching and reading has clearly been affecting my brain...because this morning, I woke up with like, a million critical theories. And, yes, I am going to share them all.
The sun isn't the center of the universe though, only the center of gravity of our little solar system. The center of our galaxy is a black hole and the universe itself actually doesn't have a center (according to Einstein's theories of relativity and big bang theories anyway)
And in a lunar eclipse the view to the moon isn't really blocked. The moon is only in the earth's shadow, which usually makes it almost invisible for us, however, I have seen a full lunar eclipse myself where the moon was visible. It's not the usual yellowish colour but a deep brownish red (it's got something to do with the wavelenght of the reflected light and red being on the lowest end of the visible scale and all that ...). There are quite a few folk legends about a "blood moon", which describe that phenomenom. Thinking about it, that does fit your Edward metaphor quite well ...

But I know the sun isn't the center of the universe...I was just being poetic. I never let science get in the way of a good turn of phrase.

Also, the idea of Edward as the Sky-God appeals to me greatly. <3
