Tolly and his grandmother? I had to go look this up because that sounded suspiciously familiar - and, yes, it looks as though it must be a loose adaptation of Lucy M. Boston's Green Knowe books, though the Wiki entry doesn't say so, but the names are all the same. I wonder how come I never saw anything about this before? (It seems to have come out in 2009 when I was still a children's librarian, according to the powers of the net.) Should be interesting, anyway. Thanks for the head's up! :-)

No prob!! I didn't know it was an adaptation (I try not to read much about a piece so I'm not swayed and them after I go in to get the proper spelling of names, so I totally missed that it was a book)
But yes, I found it charming, sweet, but not saccharine sweet. Plus, I am a sucker for timey-wimey movies ;)

:-)

I see (from hunting it down on Amazon) that it is definitely an adaptation of one of the series - The Chimneys of Green Knowe! My eyes do not deceive me.

Napoleonic Wars? I'm Sold! I'll have to check "From Time to Time" out at some point.

yes, around or just after. but none of it is about the war..... just that time period and the father is a captain called away often. but empire dresswe and all!! sorry this is short. in bed using my phone. like I said, not overly complicated but a heartwarming time travel picture that is perfect for while families or a starter sci-fi for kids. Oh, I don't need anything about the war itself; the costumes will do just fine. When I finally get my hands on Netflix, I'll see if I can find this.

You know who's head (or house) I would have loved to spend the day in?!? EDITH Head..... LOL

Like you Allison, when watching a film, by the stock I can tell in what decade it's from and USUALLY what PART of the decade (As you know early twenties stock looks different than late twenties and the same goes for thirties, forties, and pretty much all until the past 10 or so years)

Also, I am sure you share with me the talent for seeing a contemporary (or semi) and am able to tell by hair and costume which decade this story is gonna take place in, within five or so years. Yearrgsworth gets AMAZED at how close I can get with just hair, clothes, and maybe a slang word.

If it's pre-Tudor times, I can only get within a century or so since clothes didn't change much before then..
