I was surprisded by how many "reviewers" on IMDb absolutely hated this movie and said it was the worst movie they'd ever seen, because it was a "downer" and "who wants to see a movie about such depressed people." ! Then again, it was the Internet and this is America in the 21st century and all.

Probably why it did so well at Cannes and Sundance film fests and more "thinker-ie" awards than the Oscars. Closest the Academy Awards would come to honoring a movie like this is Mystic River.

It was realistically depressing. That is what pockets of the bible belt with a meth amphetamine belt-buckle look like. I thought it was well written, shot, and cast.
