I'm a bit of a history buff myself, and this Mary Surrat business sounds really interesting. Is "The Conspirator" any good? I know you recommended it in your last sentence, but does that movie acquit Surrat like this one apparently does?

It does, but they were dead set on hanging as many as they could for Lincoln's death. Even her lawyer felt her innocent, yet there was hundreds of men in that Joke of a courtroom that were planning on hanging her no matter. She even saw them building a fourth drop spot for hanging her BEFORE the trial was over from her window. Why would they build her a spot on the hanging gallows if they weren't planning on hanging her no matter what ( ... )

Fascinating stuff. I do feel sorry for all the people you've mentioned; it absolutely sounds like they didn't deserve it.

I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy of "The Conspirator" one of these days.
