Interesting, thanks! I need to catch this when it replays or On Demand or something. The one friend who saw it said Lohan seemed to make no attempt to learn Taylor's body language or gestures. I need to watch one of her movies before I watch that one to remind myself what to look for!
Like I said, i liked it and I am protective of how my old style movie stars are portrayed. I know Lifetime will show it a few more times this week, if you have DVR

I was expecting worse...I used to be a huge fan of Lindsay Lohan back in the day, she's been kind of a disappointment though so it's hard to keep rooting for her. I thought Liz & Dick was okay, there's only so much the actors could've done with the script they were given. I mean really, it was a Lifetime movie so I don't know what some people expected. I don't know if you've ever browsed the lj comm ohnotheydidnt, but people were really harsh about it. I think I would've enjoyed it more if Lindsay Lohan could still pull this look off:

She wasn't Michelle Williams doing Marilyn but she wasn't a shitty Loni Anderson trying to do Jane Mansfield either!! The voice was offputting but for those that thought it too "soap opera-ie", this is a WOMEN'S network and a scrip about the SAME couple that not only BROUGHT the term paparazzi to Hollywood, but the Idea!!! They had a few lurking photo-grabbers in the fifties outside hotels, restaurants, and movie houses as "L.A. Confidential" shows, but you didn't have the hounding paparazzi until Elizabeth Taylor 'stole' Eddie Fisher from for Debbie Reynolds after Mike Todd died (The husbands after Conrad Hilton but before her Burton Double-Take) then running right from her honeymoon with an adulterous man into the arms of another married man
( ... )
Yay for her! Unfortunately she's having trouble finding a place to store all these things now, and having to give some of them up, or so I remember reading awhile back.
She should appeal to the internet. She'd raise millions if she talked to the right websites.
She (Debbie) has given a lot away to museums and sold stuff to collectors but even with half gone to different private collections and public events, she still has SO MUCH LEFT. But she has sold some and donated important pieces to museums (like one of the pairs of ruby slippers, a dress of Marilyn's, screen used Gone with the Wind props, etc)
I caught most of this during my Thanksgiving trip (I missed the early relationship/Cleopatra scenes) and I must admit I wasn't impressed. I know that these two had one hell of a tempestuous relationship, but above all, they had GLAMOUR. But if I'd gone into this movie knowing nothing about Taylor and Burton, I'd have concluded that it was about two random Hollywood stars who had an affair, fought a lot, he drank, she cried and threw things, they had make-up sex, and then one would buy the other an extravagant present. Repeat for 90 minutes. It didn't seem glamourous, it just seemed repetitive. Even the bit with the gigantic diamond didn't feel all that classy. They just seemed to be rushing from event to event, which didn't allow for much time to linger on the exotic locales or other details that might have improved things

Here Here on 'Cleo' Trivia!!!cinematixyzDecember 4 2012, 01:48:40 UTC
As Gold as the thread in one of her 24 caret costumes!!
I guess it's hard to smash two marriages into a two hour film minus commercials.... A film on JUST HER would be fascinating because he wasn't the only interesting thing in her life. Just one of the longest lasting.
I'd also like to point out that though I wasn't conceived/born during their first nor longest marriage, I was the product of my parents brief wedded try at reconciliation, so, couples that remarry are no shock to me at all. You fall in love...get angry...divorce... realize what else is out there and realize you had it good, remarry, remember why you left that person in the first place, and re-divorce. I think it's funny that I myself am a product of such a remarriage so couples that do this fascinate me. Most of us get back together, break up, make up, etc...
But those that have the balls to make everything official each time...AH! That takes guts ;)

Yeah, it would have been interesting to see the second try fall apart on film, but they tried to cram in too much and stretched themselves too thin.
The Cleopatra story would be amazing. Liz Taylor's illnesses (and her first Oscar win), set disasters, attempts to throw the media off the scent...it would be fun to see the backstage shenanigans.

Her first Oscar win for 'Butterfield 8' is a JOKE. I say this because once again, it's the academy awarding an actress for a performance she did a year or two before (like Bette Davis, who knew she won because the academy SHOULD have given it to her for 'Of Human Bondage
