I think I'd have to agree with your review. I read the books, and I thought it was a fairly faithful adaptation. But maybe if I'd never heard of it, I'd have enjoyed it more.

Also, when I was reading the bit about the Sliders episode, that reminded me of the movie The Island lol

Thank Goddess. I was afraid 23 of you would start hunting -me- for not thinking this was the best thing ever... LOL

Zu (not Rue, Zu!! See, at least I can make Hunger Games jokes now, so that's always a plus. =) "Always look on the bright side of your district ::whistles.....::"

Oh, no hunting from me! I enjoyed it, and whoever did the color grading did an amazing job. Excellent color palettes! haha. But yeah. It'll be interesting to see which direction they go for the next ones.

I like it!

Also, I really miss Sliders. Definitely the first few seasons.

I had read the books previously because with all the hype I wanted to avoid getting spoiled, and I agree with you. While both books and movie are very enjoyable, it's not a particulary original concept. And why are people saying that the Katniss actress will get an oscar? Not that she's bad, but honestly?

Oh and Sliders! I used to love that show and nobody ever talks about it! :D

Action films rarely get the golden soldier but she will probably get the People's Choice, Nickelodeon, or MTV award for something. But The Academy rarely recognizes a new actress in a role like that. It's like Kate Winslet in 'Titanic'. It was a hell of a role and great acting, but it wasn't what the Academy recognizes in actress. Something like "Heavenly Creatures" had a chance when she was an ingenue, but she won (and rightly so!!) for "The Reader". -That's- what the Academy wants from it's actresses....not running and archery.

HOWEVER, what this WILL do for 'Katniss' is open her up for more roles, diverse roles, and ones of THOSE may let her take home the Naked Gold Man.
We will just have to watch, wait, and see what the future holds for young Miss Jennifer Lawrence.

As for 'Sliders' (yes, I just whispered it like the intro), we all (here at cinematixyz ) love it ( ... )

Sliders: Definitely the original first seasons, I don't think I ever saw any later ones with aliens (also, I think I moved from France to Spain and so had to stop watching anyway). One of the episodes that impressed me most was the one with the blue bridge (season 2 I think)

What if scenarios are great, but it's also really challenging to get all your facts right. I mean, I love it when universes are logical in their own universe. And fans have that thing of pointing out mistakes.

Yeah, I REALLY dug it. But then they lost a couple of the four and changed some parts and then in EVERY 'world' the slide into, some alien race/creature followed and it was guns, fighting, and went from being a cerebral show to an action/fantasy with bad writing and worse acting. Sad because the premise had promise and those first few seasons had some episodes that made ya think (which I love). With ray guns, Aliens, and other bullshit, I am just so disinterested.

Probably not adding anything new but read the book and was pretty happy with the movie. I thought the casting of Katniss was good. I did think maybe it would have worked better as a tv miniseries or maybe broken up in 2 movies (though that may not have worked either). As far as the universe, there were things I really liked and things I didn't ( I realize the Capitol was supposed to be over the top but that's hard to pull off. I consider 5th Element a movie that did this mostly as well. My only other comment is that I thought Woody Harrelson was miscast from what I pictured in the book. Still as I said before I was pretty happy with the finished product.

I had not read the book so I didn't know how Haymich should be. I liked Lenny K's small but important and subtle role. We will see. Unfortunately, Y accidentally found out a spoiler for the next film and we tell each other everything so I now know it, but again, for all the hype, I expected something deeper...smarter...I don't know, I just expected my mind to be blown. Nothing one me was blown. Not even a tiny breeze ;)

I like the mention of the star trek and sliders episodes. I knew the Trek one but did not know the Sliders one, that one even seems more interesting!
