I voted for only a fraction of the ones I've seen and liked, but for me, its hard to narrow it down because I love musicals so.

You can pick as many as you like... I have my top ten but in general, I'm a musicals sucker too..

I tend to love them all somewhat equally, so picking a 'best' is hard. Or rather, I love the one I'm 'with' at the time ;)

I almost did '100 best plays" but I had a feeling alot of people wouldn't know many, so I went with musicals.....

I LOVE musicals!!!!
Anyway, here we go a few of the ones I like:
Ziegfeld Girl (terribly cheesy b/w movie with Judy Garland, Hedy Lamarr, Lana Turner and James Steward)
Starlight Express
Singin in the Rain
American in Paris
Enchanted (yes it totally qualifies as musical :P)
Cats

And Les Misérables (which is on the list) is my absolute favourite musical :D

I'm sure there are lots more

I know, I had alot of film fave musicals too, but the criteria was Broadway so it had to either start as a show (and maybe end as a film) or Vice Versa and so other than Cats and Les Miserables, they wouldn't have listed the others.

But later it would be fun to do a Non Broadway centric-musical Poll!!
That would be a fun poll to do and take!!

Ok, I didn't realise the criteria :)

I've never seen a broadway musical on Broadway (I've never been to NY) but I saw Les Mis in Paris and a couple others in Germany. And obviously plenty of movie versions.

Oh, wouldn't Mary Poppins also fall into this cathegory?

No, Because "Mary Poppins" wasn't voted/picked/choosen by all the broadway critics and ticket sales and longevity of the show, etc as "One of the 100 Greatest Broadway Musicals of all time ( ... )

I might have checked almost everything, but I tried to control myself . I work in the theatre and my undergrad is in costume/scene/props design.. and I'm a musicals addict. My favorites are Little Shop of Horrors and Avenue Q, but I'm also addicted to The Drowsy Chaperone right now. I really would never turn down a musical, but probably my least favorite is Carousel. :-|

For some reason, though I understand a song like "You've got to be carefully taught" has profound implications and was an amazing statement at that time, but beyond that song, I think South Pacific is soooooo over rated. Zuzu

It's a sign you're at "that" stage of production when simply seeing the title of a show you're in (Guys & Dolls) on a list like this makes you shudder. Basically at the "I don't want this to be over, but god, I'm going to be so glad when this is over" point.

If I hear a song of something I was in, I get edgy, like my hands start doing what I would be doing if on stage or if its not one of my numbers, I feel like I should be backstage doing a quick costume change..lol. And our resident filmmaker was married for years to a stage actress who got every lead in all the biggies and revivals, so some shows, he just cringes at because he went thru rehersals WITH her. If your spouse is doing Eliza Doolittle, you also have to hear those songs from Grease or WestSideStory or what have you. I feel bad cuz some shows were ruined for him :(
