putting the die in diet

I don't remember the day they put the angry old man on a low-sodium and low-fluid diet, but I do remember what followed: a lament that he couldn't survive on restaurant food anymore, an admission of a complete inability to cook and goddammit he wasn't gonna start now, and patient care workers suggesting things like Meals On Wheels and Better Meals ( Read more... )

I understand the frustration! Having to read all the labels makes things way more annoying, what with all my self-imposed restrictions already. It sucks when the doc tells you, okay, you can't have any more of your FAVOURITE THING (in my case wheat). Ever, if you want your body to cooperate with you. Especially when it seems to be in everything. I can tell you, though, it will get easier as time goes on and you figure out what you can and can't eat.

I know it's gonna get easier. I've finally had the "I can let this control me or I can control it" epiphany. Still gonna be a challenge when I go to the states. But I'm up for it.

I could not handle a low fluid diet. It's just impossible.

I sweat buckets, I dry out fast, and I just need a lot of fluids to stay sane. 1.5 litres? I drink more than that in a 6 hour shift at work. I then come home and drink more. And this is just water...

I estimated that pre-ascites, I consumed about 4-5 litres of fluid a day. Now I consume about 2-3. Not 1.5, but it's still a reduction. Summer's gonna be hell, though...
