I'm about to save you some time.

So you wanna see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but just don't have the two hours and forty-five minutes to watch the movie, not to mention get to the theatre and back again. I understand. Since I'm the kind of person who likes to make moviegoing easier for everybody, I've decided to save you all that time and effort by giving you the barest ( Read more... )

Agreed completely. Have you seen that video that made the rounds a while back comparing the two? I didn't even realize how much Eric Roth had ripped himself off until I saw the scenes laid out one on top of the other.

I saw Button almost a month ago, not knowing about the comparisons or anything. About halfway through the flick, I got this sense of Deja View--I'd seen this movie before, but when and where? As things progressed on, I pieced it together and began to feel cheated. The very next day, I became aware of the comparison video and articles and everything. I mean, I know that bad poets borrow and good poets steal, but this was the cinematic equivalent of handing in an essay to one class that you'd already written and handed in for different class. Boot up Gump.doc, change a few cosmetic things, save as button.doc, print. Wouldn't such behaviour get you booted out of school? Is it possible to be nominated for best adapted screenplay when you're adapting your own? (Seriously: About the only thing the movie shares with the F. Scott Fitzgerald book is the title, and the eponymous protagonist.)

I was initially rather curious about Benjamin Button. That was until several reviewers began drawing comparisons between Pitt's character and that slack-jawed streak of all-American piss - Forrest Gump.

The next time I set foot in a cinema will be in a few weeks time to see Watchmen.

Even though word has it that Watchmen is gonna suck? (Though the trailer looks awesome.) In any case, it should be better than The Spirit. But then, what isn't?

I think the end result will probably be flawed in the same way that The Dark Knight was; as a result of condensing several hours worth of plot, tension and character development into something that can be shown in a movie theatre.

I avoided The Spirit. My gut instinct tells me that it's the kind of film that would look great projected onto some big screens in a nightclub, with the music drowning out the dialogue.

I think your gut's being generous about The Spirit. It's more likely the kind of film that would look great being burned in a garbage can. Why, oh why are they letting Frank Miller direct? Sure, he gave us Sin City and The Dark Knight Returns, but lately...

This was one of the few movies I have seen in a long time where I didn't feel as if I had wasted my money. I actually enjoyed this film.

Yeah, but you probably don't see as many movies as I do, just like I don't see as many movies as a film critic. My current picks? Slumdog Millionaire, Milk, and Coraline.

I liked Fincher's Zodiac--long, but kept me interested. Plus, effective use of Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man," a song so weird that the Butthole Surfers couldn't make it weirder. This, not so much.
