About seventeen or so years ago, kid world was charged with the kind of excitement that you usually only see in ads. Was it free Froster day at the corner Mac's? Nope. Free preview weekend of all the tv channels that we couldn't afford to get? Not that I can recall. It was only one of the greatest things to come along since humans evolved opposable ( Read more... )

I hated the micro goombas and the shoe for the most part... they annoyed me on a personal level that I just couldn't believe.

I was thrilled when I found ways to get maximum 1UPs because I really enjoyed falling off ledges and such...

I hated the microgoomba's aquatic counterpart, the mini-blooper.

And yeah, the 1UPs. like the card thing at the end of the level. I needed those 5 1UPs because I kept swimming into the damn mini-bloopers!

But I think it's awesome how they gave the koopalings names like Iggy and Lemmy. Who knew King Koopa/Bowser was a rocker?

By the time I finished the game, I was getting really good at getting the 5 1UPS each time... then re-playing the level...

I keep thinking it'd be cool to pick up a Wii in the new year, but the down side is that whole having to buy a TV in order to really get any benefit out of owning one...

Yeah, that is an obstacle, isn't it? And a tv is one of the many things that a Wii needs. Second Wiimote, second nunchuk, games, Wii points card, batteries, more games, wi-fi...I've seen shorter band riders.

Then there's the whole getting the Wii in the first place, which is still difficult. I lucked into mine, but that was the first time I'd seen a Wii in the wild. And I haven't seen one since.

Wow. Super Mario Brothers 3.

I remember using the gift money I got for my jr. high/middle school graduation (they changed the name while I was there) to buy it. I remember waking up at five in the morning just to play it. I can still remember the two spots in the card-matching game that almost always matched up. And I can still remember how you could use the P-Wing to cheat in the final fight against Bowser. And how freakin' cool was "Giant Land?"

I still don't have a Wii, but Super Mario Galaxy has made me want one even more.

Okay. That's it. I have to go hook up my NES now. You just tipped me over that point. Giant Land!

I almost didn't buy Super Mario Galaxy, but a wave of hype and nostalgia carried me to the Futile Shop so I could preorder mine and get a free coin. But I've made a promise to myself to not buy any more video games until Super Smash Bros. Brawl comes out.
