Every so often, I get the urge to splurge. And when I say splurge, I mean it, for there's this thing that's caught my eye and ear and imagination and it just won't let go. It's not a specific thing, either--it's just an MP3 Player with anywhere from 5-20 MBs of storage space. I've thumbed through flyers and imagined what the present future would be ( Read more... )

Yeah. Kids these days have it too easy--everything's online! In my day, you had to go down to the record store--the dingy record store with the narrow aisles and the cramped feeling--to find anything good, if you could find it at all. If you couldn't find it, there was this ancient thing called mail order where you wrote a label for their catalog, and they'd send one to you, and you'd place an order and send them some money, and they'd send you records. And there is nothing like getting a bunch of cds in the mail--it's like a surprise christmas!

Yeah, I worked in one of them record store places for a few years.

That was right after I got laid off at the buggy whip plant.

Back in my day, all the cool record stores were either partially or entirely underground. Some even smelled faintly (or not-so-faintly) of urine. Kids these days with their gleaming new Zulu records with its table of recognition and its vast listening wall...man!
