We bought six little baby chicks yesterday! Supposedly they are all female (not sure how they tell and not sure I want to know... seems I remember a Dirty Jobs episode about that) and the kids are just going nuts over them.
I know it's too funny that we gave them names but don't know who is who. XD We just say, "Stop it, Mean Chick!" whenever we see one is pecking, and if one is sitting alone we say, "Oh, Emo Chick is being emo." They could be all the same chicks, lol! ;)
I had a chick when I was veeeery little (like 2 or 3). I went to a birthday party and for some reason, a magician was giving them away to the kids.
I only had it for a couple days, before my mother convinced me of giving it away to a farm, where it'd be much happier. And we took it to a farm close by (those days, we actually bought our eggs directly from them) the following day.
In the 3rd grade at my kids' school, they bring in eggs and actually hatch them as part of a class project. Any kid who thinks they might be able to take one home can bring a permission slip and they'll give away the chicks (if there are any) by drawing names.
My two kids who have been through the 3rd grade both put their names in but didn't get drawn. :( But now they have their own! :D
Yeah, sexing chicks is a gross job (it involves prodding their "down there").
Do you plan to keep them for eggs or will they become dinner some night (after they get a bit bigger, of course--though the thought of six little chick sized roasted birds is making me giggle--imagine trying to stuff THAT?).
OOH, are you going to get turkey and duck chicks, too? Awww.
OMG they do look like marshmallow peeps (it's that time of year again! Time for PEEP S'MORES AND ALL THE LUTZ OF PUTTING PEEPS IN THE MICROWAVE! WHEEEE!
We're planning on keeping them for eggs. Once they get to laying (if they are all females), we should be getting a dozen eggs every two to three days or so. I bake a lot, and I'm always running out of eggs, so this might be A Good Thing.
They had duck chicks there at TSC where we picked these up, and I was sooooo tempted, but we really don't have a good place to keep ducks. If we had a pond, then I would totally get some!

Funny that you named them but can't tell them apart. XD
