So I was just getting back into playing TS3 when my favorite 'hood died.   It was the one I was on generaton 4 with in a little legacy I was doing, and had all my ghosts, and a really cool house... and neat things like a Time Machine... and... and... *sniff ( Read more... )

Vacations are buggy. One of my Sims wouldn't change clothes after he got back from a vacation. The animation would play, but his clothes wouldn't change. Anyway, I saved the game, came back in and he had completely disappeared from the game. His wife wasn't married to anyone anymore. It was like the Sim never existed. Likely, the trip to France caused your problem.

In your situation, I probably would have tried "resetsims *" first. (I think that's the command. It resets all the sims, sends them home and refills all their motives. That has fixed tons of weird problems for me before.)

Yeah, I should have looked around for how to address the problem before I did what I did. In all the threads I found on it, it said do NOT save your game because then you are screwed lol... which, of course, is exactly what I did.

I started a new game that seems promising so far (I am determined to like TS3 if it kills me!!) but I'm not sending them traveling unless I back it up first!

According to Pescado, sending non-married people on vacations is extremely risky. (Married people seem to be at less risk, though bugs still exist) Save and backup before you ever send anyone single on a vacation.

Speaking of Pescado, use AwesomeMod if you're not already. It'll fix tons of bugs and put in some nice features as well. (Most of which can be turned on/off. It also has the wonderful Supreme Commander addition, which works very similarly to Macrotastics from TS2 if you're familiar with that.) I like AwesomeMod so much I'm refusing to use Generations (though I own it) until AwesomeMod is updated to work with it.

Yeah I had Awesomemod way back when... and quit using it when it was taking so long to be updated for one of the EP's I had gotten (can't remember which... maybe Ambitions?) I really liked having /maxmotives lol, if nothing else!

I will probably install it once it's updated.

I was just looking at someone's awesome screenshots from TS3 and saying it made me want to get TS3... and then, stuff like this makes me not want to. TS2 is certainly buggy... like all hell, but I've never actually had fun things like disappearing sims happen to me there.

Well and with TS2, at least I know how to fix a lot of what goes wrong... I'm lost with TS3. It's almost like they have to fix it online with patches or something the way Blizzard does with World of Warcraft... and it's completely out of the players' hands. :(

And I don't even have any CC in this game at all, so I can't even blame that. Urgh.

Yeah, I don't understand why they insisted on making everything harder for the users. D: Probably so they can sell more crap from the Store...

Were you using AwesomeMod? I haven't played the game much at all, and only with the base game, but from what I experienced then and what I've read later, the game seems pretty much unplayable without it.

Oh wait, I see you answered that above. :)

Interesting about the vacations being so buggy! If I play TS3 again, maybe I'll just steer away from WA...
