I really do enjoy this story. I like that Spike actually misses the soul. Very different from Angel! You write the characters well.

I do love this Spike who is strong enough to not let Buffy's pouting and anger get to him. And Angel helping? Nice touch.

Love it! Although I'm a little confused re: the chronology (I'm reading this before 6 a.m. so the brain isn't completely awake): I assume Angel found Spike first, sent him to Africa to try to retrieve his soul but it didn't happen, and then he went to Buffy.

Thank you! But no, Spike left for Africa on his own at the end of Collateral Damage. When he couldn't get his soul back, he went to Europe, which is where Angel found him. As Angel says, he was "testing himself."

Spike is telling all this to Buffy in flashbacks. Sorry if that wasn't clear - it's all clear in my head. :-)
