I love this chapter; it's very visceral. And that's so right for our Spike! I really get the feeling of the night and the scuffle with the african slayer. The glimpse of his last trip to africa was nicely done; and the fragmented memory is so appropriate for the occasion.

I think I've said this before, but it bears repeating- I love this story and am so glad you are continuing to explore Spike's' nature and his place in Buffy's life and what the soul really means to them both-what really makes Spike who and what he is. I find your take on it endlessly interesting.

Saved the whole sodding world not too long ago. And it wasn’t my fault the bloody soul went astray. Came all the way here - *again* - half-way ‘round the sodding world to get it back, didn’t I? Not my fault that demon neighbor of yours has a no refunds/no exchanges policy, either.” In fact, he’d barely managed to escape the cave with his head still attached. “So now what? Am I s’posed to go back to her like this? A failure? Half a man? I screw up again, I’ll break that girl’s heart, and it’s been pasted back together too many times already! Not gonna be the cause of that.”
