The Joy of Escapism

Sep 09, 2006 19:18

I really needed to escape today, from...a lot of things. So I got myself to the mall, smuggled some Goobers bought at Target into the theater, spent almost $5 on a small popcorn (the hell?), and settled in to watch "The Illusionist" all by my lonesome. A good time was had by all. :-)

Oh... Chloe may be my favorite character (and she actually took a while to grow on me, since at first I found her extremely annoying) but my heart belongs to Tony.

I feel the same way about Chloe - her annoying tendencies became endearing. And I just adore Tony. :-)

Season 4 was when I finally started watching 24, so I've seen seasons 4 and 5 on tv, and season 1 on DVD. I still need to watch seasons 2 & 3 and they're in my queue.

Unlike most shows, I think '24' has gotten progressively better over the years. I think the writers had to learn how to not run out of story.

I've become completely addicted to 24, but the writers totally stretch my credulity to a ridiculous point on a regular basis. Still, it's fun and action packed and Keifer Sutherland is very pretty. *g*

Oh, I certainly agree on the straining credibility. But the first few seasons really tailed off, even if you accepted everything. They've gotten better about that. And most things are plausible enough by themselves - it's when 24 such things happen that it becomes a bit much to swallow.

I loved The Illusionist, and never felt that it dragged at all. It wasn't full of slam bang explosions, but the story moved along quite nicely and there was no filler that I could see. Compared to POTC II, whish WAS full of slam bang explosions, it was a masterpiece of pacing and storytelling economy.

I loved every minute of it, and it's a privilege just to see Edward Norton act, I think. And you're right - not a moment wasted. Old-fashioned story telling at its best.

I really enjoyed "The Illusionist" also.

Mystery, political intrigue, love story plus period piece with no car chases or explosions. I thought it was smart and entertaining.

Go see "Little Miss Sunshine" when you are in the mood to laugh till your sides hurt.

I really think it's important to get away from "Momland" occasionally

A friend and I hope to see Little Miss Sunshine next week - we're going to have to travel a little bit to get to it. It's not showing in our little town. :-)
