I love how you used the action of checking her watch to set the tone of the piece. One would think that if time passed the only reason to check your watch would be to see if time has righted itself; River checks her watch to make sure that it hasn't. That's a really beautiful way to get at River's anxiety, because everyone reading this has probably experience a moment when they kept checking their watches anxiously and this piece funnels that memory of anxiety into River's actions. <3 ( ... )

This was delightful! I love that crazy little AU, and you've filled in some of the details wonderfully. Particularly love her line to Cleopatra. And basically, "word" to everyting Cassiopeia said too.

I'm so happy that you enjoyed this and liked how I filled in the details of this AU. I wanted to embrace the craziness of this everything-happening-at-once concept. Like the Confederate soldiers with the pterodactyls. I wanted something specifically American while still evoking the familiar from that opening scene. Also, really glad you liked River's line to Cleo. That was the line that inspired this whole thing. You've seen the sketch Owlsie did of Cleo and River. He said that he imagined River had just said something to Cleo to give her that deer-in-the-headlights look. And I came up with that line and the gun play and Owlsie told me to write it, thus this story.
