Work Update

A new rapid-development project with SQL, ASP and VBA/Access components that has been sucking away every minute of my workday (and many "thinking hours" at home and while sleeping) for the last few weeks is finally moving on to field testing (as soon as I can finish up this last bit of sync code...) so I've taken today to breathe a bit, catch up on ( Read more... )

It's thrilling to hear that someone stood up for themselves and got at least part of what they were seeking. Brian, this shows a lot of maturity. Instead of letting your initial result sour you on your job, you took effective action. Good on you! Good luck with your future search!

By the way, it's really good to see a post from you! There's still an audience here despite the naysayers!

I've heard from many that your employer is seriously under paying. And when people apply for posted positions, they are then quoted lower salaries than advertised to outside applicants...

Best o'luck to you my friend.

Oh, and I've been thinking that you and Mark and I need to get together for drinks after work one night, perhaps even dinner. It's been forever since I've seen either of you.

I forgot to mention that they've been restructuring their IT compensation program for the last year. I was told that in the fall I would probably be transitioned from an applications analyst to a new database administrator band they're creating. It may come with an additional mandatory increase. We'll see :)

And yea, I believe those stories! My first 0.5% was to put me at the midpoint of the salary range, which was WAY below what I expected it to be based on my research, even of ohio higher education institutions. So perhaps the revisions in the fall will have resolved that as well.

And yes, I would love to. You always seem so busy, and that's saying a lot coming from me :D I'll put together a doodle request and we can figure something out :)

Congratulations! That was a very impressive feat, as I think most would have taken the 0.5% and ran. You work hard for them and it's about time they showed some appreciation. Sometimes it is hard for anyone to argue the facts when it's presented to them.
