This is a very sweet but moving piece. I feel so sorry for Steve, so lost, so needing to be part of something just to hold onto really 'himself'(given what happened to him). Sounds like Lauren might someone who can help bridge the gap in his life.

I love the feel of this. Lauren is perfect for Steve, an old-fashioned girl in a modern world, but still enough of a woman to appreciate what a rarity he is even if she doesn't realize how rare.

This is SO perfect:

"They were all nice girls," Steve had mumbled, "I bet."

"I bet they were," she'd agreed, relieved.

So not gay, just . . . shy.

She liked that, and made it a point to be quietly friendly each time Steve came in. That wasn't hard, mostly because Lauren liked people and specifically because Steve was easy to chat with. He knew a hell of a lot about The Big One, as Grandpa called it, and sometimes the two of them went on long discussions about the Axis powers and various battles while Lauren bussed tables and listened in.

It gives us a perfect look at the inner workings of all 3 characters.

Sadly, I must confess Captain America is my least favorite of The Avengers, but you have made him SO MUCH more appealing to me here.

Great work. And thank you, as always, for sharing your remarkable talent.

Silly me -- I should have checked your LJ first. Had I seen your graphics for "Serenade" I wouldn't have thought of an actress to visualize Lauren with. /facepalm (The one in your graphic is beautiful!) But like I said in my post, what I love most about your writing (and how you characterized Lauren) was not centering on her physical, but rather on her personal, attributes, which would allow readers to imagine their own individual Laurens... so I hope you don't mind that I made a picspam of my own. ^.^;;

Awesome job on this fic; it's been days since I finished reading it, but I'm still not over it, as you can probably see in my FF.Net reviews. XD Can't wait for the sequel to be finished! (Thanks for posting the new chapter today, BTW!)
