I at least am totally fascinated by this and want to be kept apprised! I have looked at houses at various points over the years and have choked every time, so I love this sort of blow by blow...

I would be choking if I were looking at property in your neck of the woods. :D I've met with my realtor this evening and have signed things and have a huge packet of homework. Once I'm done with the homework, I'll take that back to them along with an "I'm really serious!" check for $500 and we'll send it on to the bank. So cross your fingers for me. :)

Yeah, that's completely ridiculous of your agent to cooperate with the bank's ridiculous guessing game. You might need new realtors, too -- they are supposed to working for you, and not being ridiculous themselves.

House-hunting is just a high-stakes game, and also a time suck. If you don't really like this one that much, I would keep looking. Sooner or later you'll find something more similar to the first townhouse, or the second house. Most places have doppelgaengers in the same neighborhood, and those will come on the market sooner or later.

That only works if you're renting month-to-month and have a pre-approved mortgage, however.

Anyway, this is fascinating. Definitely keep us up-to-date, and good luck!

They do that here too, asking less then they'll take. It's damned irritating too (says the girl who spent half a year trying to find this one (but oak floors, a fireplace in my room and just the fact that my room's purple now, make it all better)).
