Christine, Adam, Wayne, and I went to the Del Mar Fairgrounds tonight to watch roller derby, put on by the San Diego Derby Dolls. I've never been to roller derby before. I'm glad I went. It was very exciting

I got the basics, I think, but I'm kind of vague on the role of the pivot and the handing off of the jammer status.
The star got handed off three times, I think, and I believe each time it was to the pivot. Is the pivot the only one who can receive the star?
The pamphlet said that the pivot controls the pace of the pack. How does that work? I mean, is it just a guideline and the other blockers know to stick near their pivot, or is there a rule that enforces it somehow?
What are the minor infractions? I get that hand/arm blocking is out, as is (I presume) grabbing opponents. What else? People kept getting sent to the penalty box and I had the idea that they were being more brutal on the track, but I didn't really know what was OK body-checking and what was over the line.
Thanks so much for coming out and bringing friends! It was great to meet you in person. You totally made me blush and made my night! :)
I have my final doctor's apointment on the 14th where I'm supposed to get the go ahead to start skating again, so hopefully soon you'll see me out their kicking ass too!
Hooray! We're going to try to come back for the May 15th bout. Do they reliably get out before 10? I'll have to bring my Rocky bag if it goes late on a Friday. :)
Is it in the iTunes directory yet? I tried clicking to add and all, but to no avail. I also tried looking it up in the iTunes store. I should be looking for "Hour 42", right? I presume this is a reference to the old "Hour 25" (which I listened to obsessively in my youth, when it was hosted by Harlan Ellison).

The name itself is more of a Douglas Adams reference, but thanks for the heads-up on the Ellison show. I'll mention this to my co-host ...
