That's about 15 minutes from my apartment on foot. :) I walk out the side door, and when I turn onto the street that runs perpendicular to the building...I can see water on the horizon. It's wonderful.
You should come up for a weekend and compare the two. I think they have different personalities in a way. The shorelines are different to me. They have a similar sort of aquatic majesty, but there's a starkness to Lake Superior that I didn't feel when we were by Lake Michigan. Plus, apparently Michigan and Huron have more overall biodiversity. Lake Superior is...oligotrophic?
How are you settling in? You seem like you're in a fairly peaceful place these days, and like you're having fun nesting. Your apartment looks absolutely beautiful in the photos. :)
Oh, is that Superior? I thought it was Michigan! Well, I've heard the UP in general has a different character than the more southerly portions of Michigan.
I'm down for a visit at some point. :) I'm settling in well, but it's hard leaving my social life behind. Every time I get older, it gets harder and harder to make new friends.
Yeah! That picture was taken a few days ago. It's just a few minutes' walk from my apartment building. I'm not sure I'll ever get tired of being so close to the water. It's heaven.
And yes, the UP has a very different character. Downstate it feels very...midwest. Flat, fields, cows, etc. But when you start to drive north, all of a sudden it just changes, and then when you cross the bridge it's like you're in the different country. It's amazing. Just very stark and harsh and beautiful. You will like Marquette--it's a small town, sure, but there's a lot to do to be so small.
