OMG OMG OMG WASN'T GARDEN SPELLS JUST FUCKING FANTASTIC? WHEN I READ IT FOR THE FIRST TIME I WAS HEARTBROKEN AT THE END. NOT BECAUSE THE END WAS SAD TO ME OR ANYTHING...BUT BECAUSE IT WAS OVER. IT WAS LIKE I'D BEEN TO DISNEY WORLD AND THEN HAD TO PACK UP AND GO HOME OR SOMETHING. YOU WILL ALSO ADORE THE SUGAR QUEEN AND THE GIRL WHO CHASED THE MOON, BB. THEY ARE ALL UNBELIEVABLE AND AMAZING AND PERFECT AND WONDERFUL.

I READ IT IN LIKE. TWO SITTINGS. IN SPRING OF...2008? I REMEMBER THE AFTERNOON LIGHT AND WARM BREEZE COMING THROUGH MY WINDOW. THAT IS WHAT I WILL ALWAYS ASSOCIATE WITH THIS BOOK. I LOVED IT SO MUCH THAT THE LIBRARIAN LOANED ME HER PERSONAL COPY OF "THE SUGAR QUEEN" SO THAT I COULD READ IT TOO. OMG. YOU WILL LOVE IT. I CANNOT WAIT FOR "THE PEACH KEEPER". IT'S GOING TO BE SO GOOD. I JUST WANT TO CRAWL INTO THIS WOMAN'S MIND AND LIVE THERE.

I read Angelology! 3 out of 5 stars imo.

The Borgia Bride looks good, maybe I'll pick that up...

It came highly recommended by a friend's mom who appeared to have excellent taste (trashy romances all over the house, and GOOD ones at that? Oh yes). So I am excited to finally get to read that one. Are you a strict grader? Like, I tend to give 3 out of 5 stars to the books that I don't dislike, but don't really love either.

Yeah, I basically didn't love it, but didn't dislike it. The story was interesting to me because I was on an angel kick, and I found some of the info on angel iconography interesting because of my art history classes. I was bored at some parts and the ~relationship bit was a little iffy, but otherwise it was pretty good!

Yeah, I like biblical lore, despite being pagan. It fascinates me. But I tend to have this weird academic detachment toward a lot of mythology--I do even when analyzing Norse mythology, which is part of my faith! I don't know how I do it--I can be talking about the archetype of love/sex/fertility goddesses in cultures all around the world and even write papers on it, but they're still real to me.

I'm rambling again. Uhhh. Yeah! I do want to read it. Are you on goodreads.com by chance?

I think you should read Isabel Allende first.
I haven't read that one yet, but I remember reading one of her books in high school and it was really good.

Your icon. OWL! <3

I love Isabel Allende. Brilliant author. Incredibly poignant writing.

I still need more Margaret Atwood in the mix. I haven't decided what yet though.

Let me know how Angelology is. It comes into work every so often and I'm not sure if I should add it to my always-large stash or not.

Island Beneath the Sea made me angry and sad. A lot of her books make me feel that way because they're about women in unfair societies, but that one probably made me feel those the strongest.

I saw that you're thinking of Atwood and I love, love, love Oryx and Crake and Year of the Flood. Very poignant without scaring the hell out of you like Handmaid's Tale.

I will absolutely let you know. You're on Goodreads with me, right?

Isabel Allende does seem to inspire a lot of emotion in her work. Fantastic writer, though. Very lyrical, I find.

And I have been eyeing both Oryx and Crake and Year of the Flood. Year of the Flood is the sequel to Oryx and Crake, isn't it? And holy shit, did the Handmaid's Tale scare the bejesus out of me. That was the book that turned me into a feminist.

Atwood books I have read, according to goodreads:

The Edible Woman
The Handmaid's Tale
The Robber Bride
Cat's Eye
Alias Grace

Year of the Flood is indeed the sequel, but it's more like a parallel novel, like the Ender's Game series and the Bean series.
