Home Team 2009: Round One

Jul 29, 2009 19:58

GUYS I HAVE BEEN WAITING ALL DAY TO BE ABLE TO PUT THIS UP AND I FINALLY CAN, YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HARD IT WAS NOT TO SAY SCREW IT AND DO IT A FEW HOURS EARLY. I seriously first drafted this post around eight o'clock today and was trying to find ways to fill time before I could put it up, it was ridiculous.

It's finally here! Welcome to Round One, featuring the top 64. The way this is set up is modeled after the NCAA tournament, in that the top-ranked nominee is up against the bottom-ranked (since I don't have divisions, obviously). Leia, who got the most nominations, is against Sophie, who ranked sixty-fourth; McGonagall, seeded #2, is against Xena, seeded #63, etc. I've had to make four separate polls because LJ cuts off polls at 15 questions and I wanted it divided up evenly. WHAT, I LIKE SYMMETRY.

Before we get started, I'd also like to thank the awesome people who helped me put the list together -- as you know, I closed nominations on Sunday, and I'd figured it'd be at least Wednesday before I'd gone through everything and had a list of the top 64. Instead, thanks to penmage, fantasticmuse, and doyle_sb4, who went through the nomination posts alongside me and helped me build a spreadsheet of every nomination, we started late on Monday morning and finished early on Monday afternoon. Many thanks also to everyone who even offered to help (as it turned out, a few people who offered ended up not being needed because we got it done so quickly), you made what was the most daunting part of it so super-easy that I am not at all worried about the prospect of doing this again further down the line. ♥!

Voting here will continue until 11:59 PM Eastern on Monday, August 3rd. As I've said before, please, by all means, link far and wide! Feel free to elaborate in the comments, or make banners for your favorite to link with! I was going to make a fancy chart so it can really be like the NCAA finals, but I am super-sleepy, so that will have to wait for tomorrow.

And I fully intend to maintain a neutral position here, but having said that, anyone who doesn't vote for Buffy Summers is going to be defriended.

(I'm kidding! OR AM I? ARE YOU WILLING TO TAKE THE CHANCE?)

ETA: HEY GUYS HOW ABOUT WE NOT BASH CHARACTERS IN THE COMMENTS. Like, I am all for talking about how great your favorites are, and a certain amount of "A sucks, B is awesome" is to be expected, but the cases of commenting just for the purpose of trashing characters are not so cool. Especially in cases where you're commenting just to tell me how much you hate both Option A and Option B -- in that case, just FYI, you don't have to vote at all. The whole point here is to be celebrating female characters, not bashing them; if I wanted misogyny I could get that from a lot of other places in fandom.
