Absolutely stunning stuff! I'd love to know more about some of this - I'd never have imagined a landscape like the snow-capped mountains, for example. Personal collection?
These aren't my photos - I found them on flickr.com, one of my favourite websites ever. Though I have quite a few like them in my father's many, many photo albums. Some older, monochrome ones of my family are here, though.
Algeria's a completely fascinating place. It deserves all the interest :)
Although I will probably sound like I'm trying to suck up on you or anything, but I have to say, that I love your country. Always have, always will. (My mother loves it even more.) The sound of Al Jaza'ir fascinates me since I was a little girl... I'm so glad that you posted these pictures - so I can daydream about this amazing and special country of yours.
:) It's worth all the daydreaming! Haha, now that I think about it, I should maybe stop posting such ~omgz!serious~ posts all over the place but... yeah. My lj is turning quite serious and overly pretentious. Speaking of which, I hope you enjoyed that thing littered with all of the photos from the old days. :p
You should! Go to flickr.com - they have truly the greatest photos.
Oh, puh-lease, at least your posts are serious instead of the constant bitching and/or drooling I have going on.
I don't know if you ever read "Pride & Prejudice". There's this quote: "Yes, vanity is a weakness indeed. But pride -- where there is a real superiority of mind, pride will be always under good regulation." You should never use the word "pretentious" for describing your Journal, since you seriously amaze me (us) with the things you have to say.
Speaking of those: I already left you a "I'm speechless" comment - I'm unable to say anything more about it because it puts me to silence in its utter beauty and perfection.
Thanks for the hint about flickr.com - they really do have fabulous stuff there.
Out of all the rich history in the Arabic countries, Al Jaza'ir history is one my favorite (alongside Libya's). I started studying it at grade 9, and all the way to grade 12. It's so rich with great names and many (OMG SO MANY) dates to remember. And of all the Al Maghrib Al Araby, it holds the nicest people (again, alongside Libya). Even though their Arabic is very hard to understand.
My favorite picture is the golden cup one, with 'Ahlan' printed around it.
Algeria's history IS wonderful. I have to admit I don't know much about the other Arabic countries apart from 20th/21st century things I've studied for politics, but yes, Algeria is a joy to learn about. :)
That one is beautiful. The people who take pictures on flickr.com get the colours so wonderfully. They all have such enviable, great cameras ;_;
