Is this what we call art?

Have you heard of Mijn Schatje, a somewhat famous artist? Her name cropped up on DoA some time ago because her art is BJD focused but she has never given credit to the sculpts she used. Some people were like, it's reference only, who cares?

Anyhow, take a good look at the pictures linked here. She's not just referencing. Evidence would suggest she's ( Read more... )

Go forth and link it! The more people who know, the better.

Or, go forth and quote it! Whichever you think works better. Read too fast and missed that part.

wow! and she claims she has never heard of BJD's?? unbelievable! the likeness is way too close and there are way too many examples for it to be a coincidence. The nerve of some people!!

She was called out on a blog and she claimed that she's never heard of BJDs and she never traces. The blog entry has disappeared, possibly to avoid a wank-fest.

The post was deleted after the blog author had been notified of the issue. He agrees with us, and wants nothing to do with fake artists on his blog.

Just wanted to clear that up^^

She's making unauthorised (am I correct on that point, then) derivative works from proprietary photos. He art is not fan art(again, am I correct). And commercial gain from this. Dodgey, very dodgey.

It's definitely unauthorised and she has definitely made a nice profit from this easy, copy work.

Spreading the word is good. This 'artist' needs to lose her credibility.

I hope you don't mind if I link people as well ^^

I think her art looks quite nice..but I'm outraged that she traces and is making profit off it and gives the companies no credit.

I absolutely don't mind if you link it, quote it or write your own take on it. :) People should know!

When I look at her work, I feel the fundamental aspect of her pieces are usually the dolls. And since she traces the dolls completely or just manipulates the originals...I don't even think I can call that 'art' anymore.
