On a Day

...that I desperately need a laugh, my sister sends me this, which at 12M and over hits, I'm sure at least all of you have seen, but then again, I need a laugh today:

(heh, that my stray cattle dog is a bit...better looking than this one, but not as funny by half!)

Cruel and unusual punishment pushing button after button. Ouch and burn! Love the eyes on the poor dog. And the "Roscar" goes to...

Is today a day you "desperately need a laugh" for the reason that first came to mind?

Probably not. We got an e-mail, sent overnight from a good friend in Philly, that her husband, another good friend, had died on Sunday.

He'd come back from a tour in Iraq a few years back, when their first son was born. Healthy as a horse. Cancer detected in the last year, when his wife was pregnant again. No history of it in his family.

He had just started his fourth go-round with chemo and died "unexpectedly." That's all the info we have. I'm assuming either a heart attack or pneumonia or some other complication from the chemo, but have yet to talk to Colleen and the other Philly folk don't seem to know any more than I.

He leaves behind his wife, a toddler and a 3-month-old.

Okay, that wasn't what came to mind immediately, but what a horrible tragedy. I realize I'd be jumping to (another) conclusion to make any link between Iraq and cancer, but depending on what his role was, maybe it's not so far-fetched. It's almost unfathomable to imagine surviving a tour of duty in war only to come back to start your life and family and be faced with what he was.

I'll definitely add his family and loved ones to my thoughts and prayers, especially his wife and kids.

No wonder you welcomed a laugh and some kind of release.
