Why The Supernatural Fandom Rocks Like A Rocking Thing

May 22, 2006 10:19

Whenever I squee about something without also critiquing it, it makes me feel ditzy and un-intellectual. But I'm going to ignore that right now, because this is a post of pure and unadulturated squee ( Read more... )

I see that the pilot is due to be re-aired on Thursday. Friends just sent me a DVR containing most of the first half of the season, and I just watched said pilot last week. I'm pretty sure now that I'm tuning in Thursday, as well!

My husband watches sometimes, and I mentioned this to him, but he's not interested in watching it! He said he gets who they are and what they do. I argued, "But don't you wanna know WHY?" *sigh* Clueless husbands!

*looks around brain for plot bunnies* I swear I'm gonna write this stuff one of these days! Wish me luck!

Yay for watching! Good for you. Maybe I should lure peeps to my house on Thursday.

Luck on writing!

Maybe I've been blessed with a few good ones, but I'm just now really starting to notice just how great the SN fandom is.

I've found everything you've got there to be true... But I have seen a few very negitive comments and icons/banners. (Mostly hating on Sam, John, Cassie or Wincest. And a few eps.)

And I did hear the RPS'ers fought over calling Jensen "Jenny" 'cause it seemed "too familiar". *snort* I just find that insanely funny, though.

I have noticed very little bashing of even the things almost no-one really likes, like Mary Sues and such. People are pretty good at just passing that stuff over.

Mostly it's shiny and lovely dovey all 'round. And that makes me so very, very happy. "Pure and unadulturated squee" can be a wonderful thing, I think. :)

This is a lovely fandom. Of course, it is made all the more shiny in contrast to what I was doing last year: SV S4: The Season That Made No Sense Whatsoever And Ripped Apart A Fandom And Made Everyone Cry. Even the people on my friendslist who are watching SV S5 appear to have mostly blanked out S4, according to the comments I've read. So bring on the Jenny and the Paddywhack, I'm so ready for that to be the extent of the arguing! Too familiar... yes, write all about his sexual escapades, but don't call him by silly nicknames ( ... )

Ah, well, I never did watch SV. I stopped after season one was over, I think, and I don't know why. Maybe it changed times (and I didn't care enough to follow it)...?

And I may still not exactly like John, but I'm mostly shutting up about that, for the boys' sakes.
Um...yeah, I would kinda hope you wouldn't hate him. *sniff* Because I don't think there are many bigger John fans than me, and I'm always going on about him and such in posts. Like your OTB I have an OTF, see?
--And I don't dislike people for just not liking him...As I've said, it's only the bashing that gets me pissed off. :)

I mean, I don't want him to die anymore!
That's good, at least. And I think he's got at least another season in him. Though it might be spent repossessed by the Demon, I think. That's how I'd do it, anyway...

And, if you hate one because he's been omgmeen to the otherI used to hear a lot of that (sometimes still do) "omg, Sam is SO mean to poor Deany!" type crap. Like the characters are all one-sided. *eye-roll* None of them are perfect, that's ( ... )

S1 of SV was the most fun by far, and the best, though early S3 had some really intense bits.

I'm not going to bash John. I just don't really squee about him. I'm like Switzerland or something.

Though it might be spent repossessed by the Demon, I think. That's how I'd do it, anyway...That's what I would like the most story-wise, I think. He would continue to be gone, so we would have the Sam&Dean dynamic, and not the all-about-Daddy dynamic. But they wouldn't be looking for him, per se, because they would know where he was. Or at least, they would know the situation he was in, and instead of an aimless wandering search, they would be attempting to reach a specific goal, to figure out how to get him back and to then do so. I mean, I'm fairly sure the Colt will not be what kills The Demon, and I've been sure of that since it was introduced. I hope this is all building up to something big (apocalypse!), and there's still lots of information the boys need before they'll really be able to accomplish anything. (Also, in S2 they should ( ... )

well it's kind of hard to have a major shipper war when there are so few characters to ship.... but still, it's this shiny happy fandom - people are NICE. and they seem to be helpful and patient and excited (and occasionally excitable...) and for a show with all of one season, there's still a lot to talk about and write about and get all meta over. and the boys are hot. :D

This fandom, it just puts a grin on my face. The show itself makes me grin, and tell everyone I know they really need to see it (unless the show is making me go fetal with the angst).

I've been through a few fandoms in my day, and the creativity here is just astonishing. Also, as you said, this is a very happy fandom right now. It's really remarkable. Also, usually I just do a small amount of 'fic but Supernatural has me also doing tons of meta (I usually just don't do much meta). I've been Supernaturaled! :D

It is so much fun. I can't even go on long enough about how sweet and excited and happy and productive everyone is about this show. I mean, I really like watching the episodes, but man, the fandom hanging out may be even better!
