A Fic That Grew on You?

What is a Pros fic that grew on you? It didn't quite satisfy when you first read it, but either thinking about it afterward or on a rereading, something clicked.

There are a two fics that I read soon after I came to Pros fandom and didn't like, but have really enjoyed on reread: Professional Dreamer by Pamela Rose and Suitable Gravity by DVS. (Yeah, I know. I think I was just in a really bad mood when I first showed up.)

Another fic, which I thought was unrealistic when I first read it, but which kept popping back into my mind until I gained an appreication, is the undercover as gay story A Taste for It by jj_minerva.

Hmmmm. Professional Dreamer was the first Pros zine I bought and I loved it. I also like Suitable Gravity. I wish I could think of something to fit. Usually I don't reread stories if they didn't grab me the first time. It was probably O Yardley. I found myself drifting away when I was reading her fic but upon reading all of ProsLib (I'm still at it!), I did find several of those fics that I really enjoyed. Party Spirit was one of them. I wasn't enamoured with the first part or two but then they got more interesting and I read all the parts eagerly.

Great question, I'm trying to think.... or an author's style which grew on you or vice versa? e.g. I loved M Fae Glasgow and can still appreciate her skills as a writer but in time I found her style a bit wearing, a bit too wordy.

I'm still trying to think of a fic which grew on me.

Harlequin Airs by Ellis Ward. When I joined the fandom, I wasn't a big fan of AUs (still not). I read this because at least Doyle was in CI5. But when I got to the part where they were both performing in the circus, I opted out of finishing the story - but I guess it wasn't finished with me! I had a long trip coming up and needed a long story to read, so I gave it another chance. Even though the lads aren't in their usual 'roles', they were still 'my' Bodie and Doyle. The author captured and kept their characters and I was hooked. This is still one of my favorite stories. It is #1 on my 'deserted island' list.

I have Harlequin Airs on my list to reread. It is another one that I read as a brand new Pros fan and didn’t like. I suspect I would now, though.

I can't think of a thing. If I didn't really care for it... I don't think I would have gone back for a reread. There's too many stories out there that I still haven't read the first time, so I don't really have time to reread a story I didn't much like.
