Any reader of fanfic will tell you that fanfic, and maybe particularly slash fic, has a lot of rape in it. I’ve been aware of that for a long time. The late-80s and early-90s fic I’ve been reading lately feels like it has even more, though. If there’s no actual rape in the fic, there’s the treat of it. If not that, it features in the backstories or, for AUs, is part of the worldbuilding. I don’t exactly object to this, but I do wonder what it is all doing there.
