Ancestry research question

I have been attempting to research my family history/ancestry over the last few months. I have found a lot of info so far - including the fact that my great grandparents apparently owned a tavern in Rockdale, Illinois for a while. Through talking to as many relatives as possible, I found out the name of the street where the tavern was supposedly ( Read more... )

I would do a search for taverns in Rockdale and then find the street name. There is a good chance the tavern just changed ownership not the name.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately taverns in Rockdale are like grains of sand on a beach. There have always been a million of them in that town. Plus I should note that my ancestors owned the tavern back in the old days - before 1930. And the tavern was supposedly on the main street in town, so there has likeky been many taverns on that street. So that complicates the search.

Who knows... If I get desperate enough I can always sit with a yellow pages and take my chances by calling existing tavern owners and asking to speak to the owners. :-)

I would google it. That is far simpler. Also some of the taverns might have a bit of their history on their web page.

I would do some of this if you gave me the name of the street and the years that you know that they owned it. And perhaps the your ancestors names.
