Snow White Murder

Hi! It's been a long time, today I want to try to write as much as I can, about what I've been watching but mainly thinking... Saa who knows...
Ok, lately for no particular reason I've been watching a couple of movies, some more interesting than others, and this one I wanted to review in order to keep track of it. This is again a suspense and involves a murder case...maybe my fave genre... and the return of someone familiar, right?

Now, you see I don't know what are these two laughing at...

You're not in the mood guys! This is more in the mood

Into the mood, I mean music

I'm sorry about the auto-play, but I loved this music, I'm not going to lie, not just from the beginning but at the end, it just sounds amazing, actually I loved the whole OST, it's just so nice to hear and each one puts you in the specific mood, and about this track, the violin, or the viola, I think it's in this case, just sounds great. I love strings instruments, sometimes they sound as they were talking. And the mood is just precise. This is call All alone in the world. This movie in some sort of way, transmits that, that horrible fear, of being so alone in this world, isolated with no one by your side. And I like the final message of it, it's sad, but at the same time beautiful and that kind of gives you hope.

Into the plot

This is based on a novel by MINATO Kanae, the same writer for Confessions (2010), and N no tame ni. And everything starts with a body, a murdered person, this lady which gets to be compared with Snow White. Now, she is a beautiful office lady played by Nanao, I've watched her on First Class and a couple more of doramas, but this I think it's her first role in movies.

A bishin, and no she is no yet dead here

Now, what is interesting about this movie, is that we don't get to see much of the police's perspective or the investigators working. This is about the social media and transmits in an accurate way, I think, the emotions and the effects of normal people, not attached to the crime participating in the solution. Suddenly a part-time news journalist, that constantly updates his Twitter account, gets involved and starts investigating on his own, and the result of this investigation is shown to the public, so everyone gets to judge and get their own conclusions. This character is played by Ayano Go, I've only seen him before on Gantz, and don't particularly remember him. Now, he breaks every journalist ethic rule in order to make his big career break, and by doing this he displays the identity of S-san, the suspect of murder, to the public scrutiny, based mostly on the witnesses rather than proofs. This S-san is played by Inoue Mao, I haven't seen her in any important role since Hanadan, so it's a pleasant surprise to see a more mature work from her, and not exactly portraying everyone's sweetheart.

These two are no particularly related

Now, it's really S-san the murderer? Did the circumstances, like bullying or a complex, drove her into taking revenge by her own hands?

Into how the story is told

I like it when we get to see the same story told from different perspectives, so I enjoyed the ride. We also get a glimpse of the working place, specially into the feminine one and the silent and non-violent war that the different women had to put up with. There's also as I had previously pointed out the social media. How TV shows and in this case Twitter, and in a wider vision, how the Internet influences in our opinions, and how that can affect a person's life. I liked the way in which this looks updated to our time. Plus, we all know about the phenomenon since CSI's series and such, that had made everyone of us a detective and a clue seeker. Of course, none of us would like to be in the position of being judge by such a bunch of amateurs, right?

Twitter, with no names and too cruel opinions

The pace is nice, some episodes are repeated from different perspectives, but the swicht of cameras and the speed made them important. The sceneries are quite wide, specially in the second half, in the first it's narrower. I loved the takes from S-san's hometown. I loved countryside takes. The story is not so complicated but it is told in a clever way and we get to witness a couple of ironies that are funny, specially from the guy that helps Yuji, the news guy.

Sometimes he seems more clever

The OST is very beautiful, it's like a classical concert. I haven't mentioned yet but it's by TSUKEMEN, who also plays a small part in the movie as a famous group named Serizawa brothers. Their story is also intertwined with the plot in a very interesting way. Some sounds made me remember of N no Tameni soundtrack, which it's also with a lot of strings.

Back in hometown

The result

The result is a suspense story in which the highlight spot is taken by the jealousies and the demonising power of the social media. The acting moves smoothly between the different witnesses, anchored by the selfish and sometimes rude demeanour of Go, and by the deployment of Shirono, S-san character. Inoue displays her character very neatly and she surprises me by showing a convincing image as the other party, not the beautiful princess in the castle, but a normal and non-extraordinary person often overshadowed by more "flashy" kinds of beauty. The music just puts in the right effect and the pace moves fast the last 15 minutes allowing to discover something not only about the murderer but about our own reflexions.

Her name literally means beautiful princess in the castle

Her life in college

Her weird things

The Marks

My marks? Well, the story was introduced in an interesting way, the characters are clearly introduced which is easier to identify each one of them. The music and the use of space start taking more prominence as the story moves on. At the end, more than the murderer or their motives we get to know some characters and maybe in a way discovering that any person is harder to get than we might think.

Child friend

Is she the guilty?

Shihori Kanjiya in a small but sweet part

So, all in all, this should be a 3,75 Lol I don't have that star. I mean, it's entertaining and a nice choice.

here have a sweet for the quarter I owed

At the end, it's Mao-chan who surprises me the most, I haven't seen her for a while and it's nice to watch her in this role. She is able to display a believable piece of work. And it's the second work I really enjoy from Kanae Minato, she also wrote the novel from N no tame ni, as I already mentioned.
