I am just beginning to really understand and love the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone, and maybe it has something to do with the high quality of the built in camera of my new iPhone 4 which is making this app so fun to use

My hipstamatic tips-- buy ALL the extra stuff! Worth it!
And, in prefs, make sure the randomize feature is on. Shake the phone, and it will randomly switch up the lens/film/flash combo.

Also-- they makers have another app called Swankolab, which is a darkroom emulator with similar effects for photos taken with the regular camera app.
