Sorry bbe. My experience with LinkedIn is so limited all I got is an account (filled in all my handy dandy info) and then a bunch of recruiters finding it and contacting me through it (if that's how it's supposed to work anyway). TT_TT
Linked in is a professional networking site - tends to be used by recruiters/head hunters for the currently employed. It's not a great method of job hunting - more of a required online presence that will bolster your job search when someone starts researching you.
Hm, yes, yes. I am working though, but mostly looking for something more permanent and... better paying. I think it's particularly effective for certain industries (read: computer science according to both above and below you) but I definitely know at least one person who's been recruited off of LinkedIn in what I'm trying to work in which would be healthcare consulting. I think it helps if you're more active and then people who are looking might... see your profile? I don't know if that makes sense.
But everyone (aka all the alumni career counselors) are convinced it's the perfect way to network/find jobs so. I don't know. But I've put out something like 50+ paper applications and have only gotten courtesy emails, rejections, and one really really weird phone screening. So I think it might just be a way to put my efforts in somewhere better.
I just filled out my info on it and that's it ^^;; Recruiters still find me somehow, and I get contacted by them pretty often. They have a jobs section though if you want to try searching, but I've never used it.
Thanks! I think it has a lot to do with location/industry/skill set. I imagine your skillset is highly desirable in your industry and location so.... probably why~ I'll just have to work harder! I might upgrade to premium too for free for a month to try it out too but I'll see what I can do first.
