Knitting In The New Year

Jan 02, 2012 01:33

It has come to my attention that, after spending the night out at the chilly and damp First Night goings-on while wearing fingerless mitts on my hands and subsequently spending all of January first with an EPIC arthritis inflammation in my hands, that my current choice of hand wear is inadequate ( Read more... )

Herringbone! Although I like the wrap around as well.

Eh, stupid arthritis inflammation, may it go away for you. All my joints are ballooning because of the heat and I feel like a painful plank of wood. Who knew, before I accrue permanent damage, it is the heat that murders me. After I get permanent damage, the cold. I am not sure what is better. I need iceblock gloves.

Herringbone is just so timeless. The tricky part of of the instructions is that they are all in Japanese (still, I think. I haven't checked since last winter to see if anyone's translated them.)

Hands! They are tricky pieces of equipment to maintain! If only there was a manual, or possibly a . . . handbook.
I am counting on your joints being too inflamed to throw anything at me for that. Also, counting on distance.

Oh my! I do love the Wraparound Gloves and I think they would suit you the best... but I have a pair of gloves with the partial fingerlessness and, at times, they are just not enough and my joints still get red and chilly. Knowing that you use your hands a lot, I wouldn't go for a mitten style (though the colour choice in that photo attracts me like a moth to flame), I would instead choose the bird and vine/endpaper pattern.

What can I say? I'm a William Morris fan.

Yes, partial mitts and gloves just aren't cutting it! Right now they are 90% of my handknits for hands, so something must be done. Before I next have to scrape snow off of my car, preferably. Flip-flop mittens are no good either since the wind and weather always manages to worm their way in through the finger cuffs.

The Wraparounds have both a fingerless and a closed-finger version, in fact. Mostly the example I chose was the color combination that made me sit up and go, "OOOOH!" (Although I would do it in the dark indigo seen here, and maybe a blue-grey for contrast.) I came across Eisblume gloves last night, and while I don't have the yarn I'd like for them either (pretty much exactly what this lady used-love the natural color and the rustic quality of Rowan Scottish Tweed), they are also making my fingers twitch in a knitterly way.

The Fiddleheads are something I've loved ever since Hello Yarn came up with the pattern. They allow for a lot of color play and many, many versions. But I just can't seem to get myself motivated to ( ... )
