Goodbye, friend Raven

Nearly eight years ago, I sat in romandruid's living room across from a guy who had done a silly thing: he'd read the ADF Preceptor's quarterly report and decided to volunteer for a job in ADF! I'll be honest, I thought that those reports that romandruid had been writing were going out into the ether and just being ignored by everyone. How fortunately wrong I was ( Read more... )

I am sorry for the loss of your friend. He's in good hands, certainly. Every time someone I'd read material from (because sadly, that appears to be the breadth of my involvement with ADF folks that are further away than I can afford to travel)passes away, I am also struck with a sadness. In this case, I feel as though I missed out on meeting another kindred spirit. The folks who inspire others and encourage them to do their best appear to have attained an immortality; they continue to inspire others to help others...who then pass it on and pay it forward and the cycle continues. I think further work in his memory is definitely a great idea.
Don't know if you know, but the mentor program I worked out for CLG members is heavily based around the nine virtues, too. :)

It is sad, but I remember the good things, not the pain of missing someone. You're right: immortality can be found in the work we do, when it helps others.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I never met him, but that's a name I've seen so often over the years in ADF.

Well said, Michael. I will miss him very much... but then I've been missing him for a few years already since I hardly ever see the WLG folks anymore. I do appreciate the selfless dedication he brought to the position of Preceptor. I also remember -- partially fondly -- standing in the pouring rain at Wellspring (was it 2006) with Kirk as we bore witness to Raven, Carrion, and Robb's oaths to complete their CTP work by the next Samhain.

I am sad that I didn't know him very well, but I am grateful for the time that I spent with him this past Wellspring, brief as it was, talking in the tent with him, Missy, and several others.

He will be missed.
