My body is like royalty to me, but it doesn't like what I'm feeding it

I miss the nutrition that fast food provided me. It sounds like a strange statement, but you don't realize how much you need some of the crap that's in it until you stop eating it.

I'm not one to actively try and "balance" my diet. I eat until I'm full (or until I'm being impolite) and then stop. I mean, hell, the stupid new food pyramid doesn't ( Read more... )

hmmm,

sounds like you have people to talk to. but something to note. When you are eating breads, watch out for High Fructose Corn Syrup. (or anything sweet for that matter). It keeps the chemical, leptin, from being produced, which helps the body feel full and satisfied. Thusly, if you eat things with HFCS in it, you eat more, and feel more hungry, than you should. It, has also been shown to cause type 2 diabetes. I have several friends who did nothing else but remove it from their diet, and have lost weight and feel healthier.

but it takes time, as everyone says. I noticed more energy when I eat more veggies and less other pains when I eat less grease.

good luck!

Thanks. I generally avoid HFCS in breads (other than cereals, but I haven't actually had cereal in over two weeks at this point, and am currently breakfasting on oatmeal). Soda has also been cut out of my diet entirely recently, and that's a major source of it, right? As is ketchup, if I remember right.

yeah.

I get really angry honestly. I go to mostly organic stores, and pick up whole grain bread with some sense that my health is being looked after, and then have to search ever shelf to find bread without HFCS. usually I can find one, out of 10, to not contain it.

I always forget its in ketchup!! But I don't eat it that much, so thats ok.

Keep us updated. I'd love to know if your body adjusts or if you end up going back.

I've been thinking, off and on, about food journaling. It sounds like an interesting experiment as well.

Just wish I'd started before this change occurred, ya know?

Another note ;)

I love the taste of whole grain. I was eating it long before it was a health fad. what don't you like about it?

to me its tasty, texture, and doesn't require me to pound it with butter to be tasty.

I seem to have missed (or just forgotten) the impetus for this change in your diet.....

It's somewhat complicated, but partly based on financial reasons: I can't afford fast-food, so I don't eat it.

I'll tell ya, not having the $5 to buy a Wendy's meal can really prevent you from eating fast food :)

Other (more prominent) factors include the increased time in the morning, which allows for breakfast and packing a lunch, and the fact that I'm home before sunset, and thus able to cook dinner in. I suspect that, even if I had the finances to do it, I would end up not eating fast food (or eating out much at all) because it wouldn't make sense in my schedule.

At one point I started to consider finances and then read an article that reminded me. Fast food is many times cheaper than buying healthy.

When that sunk into my head.. instead of actually just going out and purchasing better foods... I taught myself that Taco Bell is rather less expensive than the other fast food restaurants in its range.

Hehe. That would help, except it would involve eating Amer-Mexican, which, honestly, is enough like eating Mexican that I find myself rather disgusted by the thought :)

I'm an odd one who doesn't like Mexican. Literally any other ethnic food is cool with me, but Mexican food is right out.

Looking forward to seeing you, as well :)

I wonder, if I lose weight, do I become an even lighter-weight when it comes to alcohol?

Actually, I think I look fine. . . but then, I tend toward poor body image :)

Hehe. Well, if you need a hand with getting rid of some of that, I think an arrangement can me made. :)

I'm debating on finding some rum on my way up. . .
