It appears that the Vintage Classics division of Random House UK has released new editions of Jane Austen's novels. The covers are...well, see for yourself:
Haha, sounds like you really need some manageable paperbacks! See, I'm not sure I can justify buying these for myself -- I already own paperbacks of all the novels, plus hardcovers of Pride and Prejudice and Emma. So I don't really NEED new copies...I'm just not sure I can resist!
Haha, don't feel guilty. Maybe I can get my family to buy them for me for Christmas or something. :)
Cool connection -- I wouldn't have thought of the Lady of Shallot's Tower. Mostly because I haven't yet read the poem, I guess! But I like how she's sitting by a window with a pointed arch -- it's very gothic! :)
I REALLY love the stuff Vintage has been doing - sometimes I'm tempted to ignore whatever copy I've already got just to buy the new Vintage one! Shameless I know. I haven't seen these out yet. I love the one for S&S.
Haha, I know how you feel though! Most of my editions of Austen's novels are not very pretty, so I'd love to get these new editions. They're not sold in bookstores in the US, but it looks like Amazon has copies!
Oh, I have the same problem -- when I see new cover art on books I love, it is SO hard to fight the temptation to *upgrade*, so to speak...
What I *don't* like is when the cover art is a picture from the movie tie-in, ugh. When I read Stephen King's "The Stand", I want to see symbols of good and evil fighting it out, NOT Molly Ringwald and Gary Sinise. :-P
Ugh, I definitely agree re movie tie-in covers. I definitely try to avoid them when possible...sometimes I'll even pay a couple dollars more to get a better cover!

*Huggles you*
PS--the cover for Northanger Abbey reminds me of the Lady of Shallot's Tower
