Really, you haven't read this before? My favorite high school English teacher made it really memorable for us, by belting out STELLAAAAAAAA a lot.

Astonishingly, I never had to read this in high school -- or college, for that matter! I'm beginning to suspect that my education had some quite horrifying gaps.

I always liked the line about Elysian Fields, which is where heroes in Greek mythology went after their deaths. Williams really hit it out of the park with that play. It's been forever since I read it, though. I remember it as brutal and moving. I'm not sure any other writer in America got lonliness and isolation the way Williams did.

Yes, I liked that part too! I was definitely impressed with the play, and I need to read some more Tennessee Williams. I think I read Cat on a Hot Tin Roof ages ago, but it's definitely due for a re-read.
