I'm about halfway through Queen of Fashion, and I had to take another break. *blush* I don't know why I'm having such trouble with this book! It's actually quite interesting, and the writing style is good and everything. But for some reason, today I just needed to kick back with some happy, feel-good reading. For me, that's Georgette Heyer.

I think I always go back to my YA/children's books for those times - Tamora Pierce novels, Robin McKinley's Beauty, Little Women, DEFINITELY the Anne of Green Gables series (oh, how that scene where Anne finally realizes she loves Gilbert and agrees to marry him - it's worn thing), Ella Enchanted is completely torn apart ♥

Ah, the memories.

I've actually never read any Tamora Pierce, but I definitely second everything else on that list! I heart Gilbert Blythe so much...he was one of my first fictional crushes. :)

To be honest, the writing skill in the Alanna quartet (also known as Song of the Lioness) was extremely lacking, as it was her first set of books. But the storyline is AMAZING and the books go quickly so don't let it bother you. Just know that by her later series in the Tortall world, such as the Kel quartet (Protector of the Small), the writing is so much more honed it's amazing :)

Hm. Well, I'll forgive almost anything for a good story, so I'll try one and see how it goes. :)

I pull out Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness quartet whenever I need a comfort read. I can't even begin to count how many times I've read those books!

I've never read them, but I've been hearing a lot about them lately - I might have to check it out!

Is Georgette Heyer an older author? I have this idea of her being published in the mid 20th century...but correct me if my idea is way off.

My comfort books: I second everyone here--YA authors are like my literary mac and cheese. I'm particularly fond of Kristin Cashore's Graceling.

Yes, Heyer's an older author. I don't remember the exact dates, but I think she was writing in the first half of the 20th century. A lot of her books have recently been re-printed, though!
