Titles, etc.

I went on my book binge today! It's very strange: some days I'll go to the bookstore and find absolutely nothing I want, while other days I'll find way too many new books and agonize over what to buy. Luckily, today I had the latter experience! Here's what I eventually decided on: (1) Maria V. Snyder, Storm Glass, (2) Daphne Du Maurier, Frenchman's ( Read more... )

I wanted to buy Frenchman's Creek a few months ago for it's gorgeous cover :) I remember The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things from the movie trailer!

As a huge romance/manga reader I think I've come to look past the titles, particularly the overly cheesy/sexual ones. Some titles make sense in the end *shrugs* But in general, for me, titles are really important, both for marketing and as a work of art/creation. Sometimes musical artists title their songs so randomly I don't even know how it relates to the song - but when it comes to books I almost expect to find out why an author chose a certain title. And I'm a sucker when it's from a poem or something, like Of Mice and Men or The Painted Veil.

And nah, I'm a total cover/title whore ♥ Though I will rarely buy a book based on them if I see it in the store, I will write down or remember the title so I can look it up online and if it's good, I'll get it. That's the only way it works for my overly frugal mind, I very rarely impulse buy haha.

I actually do the same thing in bookstores - I write down titles of books that look interesting, then look up reviews online! I'll also check to see if the library has it before I shell out money. :) Every so often, though, I just get the craving to be spontaneous and buy something I haven't researched.

I totally agree with you about titles that are quotes, too. I always want to know how the literary allusion will relate to the content of the book!
