the book reads to me like a more literary version of Agatha Christie I think that really sums up its best qualities - I just re-read it this week (and I think there are at least four of us that have posted reviews of its, literally in the last 10 days or so!). Aunt Bee is definitely the character that comes across the best - I think maybe Simon gets a little short-changed as we never really find out what's going on in his head - it does sometimes feel like a novel that might have worked better with the crime element removed (sacrilege, I know).
True, Simon is probably the most enigmatic character, but I did find his behavior completely believable throughout the book. Loved Aunt Bee the most, though, for sure!
