Love Zippy! You know there is a sequel, She Got Up Off the Couch?

I've read several Hornby's, but not that one. Must remedy that.

A couple I'm embarrassed to say I haven't read: Rebecca, and The Count of Monte Cristo.

Good one with Ulysses, although if the theoretical book club that I joined ever assigned that one, I'd promptly back out! :P

Yes! She Got Up Off the Couch is great as well!

I really did like A Long Way Down, although High Fidelity is definitely my favorite Hornby.

Ooh, Rebecca is really good -- hope you decide to read it sometime! I'm due for a re-read myself, actually. And I plan to read the unabridged version of The Count of Monte Cristo this year.

Great ideas and I love the reasons you give! My real-life book club did read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and response was quite divided so we had a lively discussion about it.

But I'd be afraid that if I proposed reading Ulysses to my book club, they'd strip me of my membership! ;)

Haha yeah, it would be a pretty brave (or crazy) book club to actually welcome the suggestion of Ulysses!

Hi: That's a nice mix - and I love the idea of Borges fan fiction - I saw him speak when I was first in college, riveting! Happy reading, Ruby

Wow, that's cool that you actually saw Borges in person! I've only read a couple of his stories, but I remember thinking they were very good, in a mind-bending sort of way. :)
