Well, yesterday (on Jane Austen's birthday, no less!) I finished my 11 in 11 challenge over at LibraryThing. I picked 11 categories of books and read 11 books in each category, for a grand total of 121 books.
A little of both, really. Before 2011 began, I made a list of categories and wrote down some possible candidates for each category. I ended up reading some of those books, but I also read a lot of books that I hadn't planned ahead of time.
I normally do challenges because they'll force me to read those books I'm planning to get around to "someday," so in that sense the strict planning works for me. But I wouldn't want to be TOO regimented, so my plans always end up evolving as the year goes on.
Makes good sense. I'd probably have done something similar rather than lock my reading by picking out 121 books ahead of time. Have you thought out your topics for 2012 yet?

Is that your full list or you have more that didn't relate to the challenge??

Did you make up the list ahead of time, or had you decided on the categories only, and then filled it up as the year went by?
