I would like to read it, but man, it is so huge! Doorstop size. And there are so many other books...
Glad to see you could appreciate it. It tips the balance closer to ever reading it.

Yeah, it's pretty monstrous. I have an edition that's broken into 3 volumes, which made it a lot easier to read.

I first read this when it came out, and I thought it was well-written and impressive, but I remember not being that pulled into the story itself. Something about the narrative was very subdued and made it hard to really be as engaged with the characters as I like to be.

I agree that the individual characters are hard to connect with, and the story certainly isn't edge-of-your-seat gripping! For me, the world of the novel was what kept it compelling.
